Hey guys, I have another question about the 83 Merc 50hp. I am trying to find what the right pitch prop would be for my boat and am looking at getting a tach first to decide what I need. Only thing is the seloc manual and nowhere online can I find how to hook one up to my motor. If anyone can help me I would appreciate it, I just need to know what to splice into to get this tach working. Thanks,
Chris

Re: Tach hookup

Look on the front of the remote for a socket. If there is one you can get a harness that plugs in to it for your tach leads. They carry the harness right here on i-boats. If no socket you need to connect to the gray wire in the harness from the motor for tach signal. Get 12 volts for it from the purple wire going to the ignition switch and connect the ground.

Re: Tach hookup

Wow thanks for the help! I am curious though as to what kind of tachometer I will need for this outboard. I am looking for something on the less expensive side. Thanks!
