Ran across a problem while re-building my motor for my boat. 360ci Mopar. For many reasons I have to use a aluminum timing chain cover. Raw water passes through the cover and into the block. Will JB Weld work as a coating for the aluminum that comes into contact with the raw water?

After a couple of stops for work today I got to the junk yard for a new timing chain cover at about 1 pm. Found a 85 pick up with the cover I needed and preceded to tear the front of the motor off. I must be getting good at this I was done in about a hour (I only had a $10.00 socket set and a combo screwdriver). Got it home and spent another hour getting it cleaned up (I would have been embarrassed to take it to a shop like it was) and called a local powder coater to see when I could have it done. I also told him I didn't care what color it would be I just needed the protection of the powder coating. He said “bring it up we will see”. When I got there he asked if I could come back in a hour to pick it up. Floored, I said yes!!! Now I am back with my powder coated timing chain cover. From greasy junk yard part to better then new in five hours. I hope it works.
