Just purchased a 2002 50hp merc that has not been ran for some time. It has less than 20 total hours on engine. I drained the gas, purchased new plastic gas tank to replace rusted metal tank, removed the carbs and removed the floats and needles and thouroughly cleaned carbs. Flushed gas system by pumping pressure bulb in gas line until clean gas came out of fuel line to carbs. Replaced spark plugs. To start engine I have to choke (until it starts) and run in fast idle. Engin will not keep running unless it is at high rpm and even then I have to choke it every 5 to 10 seconds to keep it running. I thought after new gas, new plugs and cleaning the carbs it would run fine. Any ideas please???
