I have a 1999 Mercury ELPTO 115. I have had problems this year when aftern running for a while its starts skipping, it gets worse the longer you run it until finally it will not idle. When i first start it up, it idles and runs strong. Carbs were re-built last year, plugs are new, spark plug wires replaced last year, fuel is fresh. any suggestions?

check all coils and switch boxes..then the stator. i would say its most likely the coil(s).

You need to verify engine condition, make sure throttle valves are properly synced. Any change when you prime the primer bulb while running? Might want to do a decarb of the engine. Was the fuel pump rebuilt when carbs were rebuilt?

the compression was checked before the carbs were rebuilt, not sure about the fuel pump? I was thinking something eletrical? It is running fine at the beginning, but after 30 minutes or so is when the problems start. Someone told me that Mercs. have problems with the power packs after they hear up sometimes, but someone else said my motor has four and that was probably not the problem, what is a power pack?

the power packs are the switch boxes. they take the current from the stator and send it to the coils. and as a side note, i recently changed all 6 of my coils out on my black max to have one of them be a lemon from the factory, so i would definitely check to see if all of them are working.
