How do I disconnect the shift rod to remove the lower unit on a 1981 115hp evenrude. Can anyone help.

How do you get at it to disconnect it do you have to remove the carbs or what? Can,t hardly see it let along get to it. Is there a way to disconnect it at the bottom?

I figured it out had to remove the bottom carb to see both bolts on the nuckle that connects the two. Used a 3/8 socket and 6" ext. and ratchet and was able to get at the pin bolt that connects the shift rod to the nuckle with shifter in reverse. Putting back together might be another story.
