No Spark 1974 Johnson 85

I have a 1974 Johnson 85 i started it up today ran great then all of a sudden i lost fire on 3 of my coils there's a black box that all my coil wires plug into could this be my problem the only fire im getting is on cylinder 4 the rest are dead.. I am confused and what is that black box called it looks like all the wires plug into it

I think you are talking about the power pack, it controls the firing of the coils. There are check out procedures in the factory manual if you have it. If not, go to the CDI website and locate the troubleshooting section for your engine and use it to help you find your problem.

That would be awesome i took the power pack off and inspected it.. It looked OK put it back on and now no spark at all lol.. do you know the website.. Sorry I am new to all this.. i went to the website but couldn't find info on it

You're welcome, come back if you can't get your engine fixed, someone here will be able to help you out. At least you will have the basic trouble shooting done.

i believe its the power pack when i switch the coils around they will fire and i took off my key switch and still same problem so i just ordered a new power pack.. so much for the lake tomorrow lol.. also on my Slater it looks like grease or something oozing out of it.. any ideas

If you have black stuff oozing out of you stator, it's gone or on it's way out. I think you can use an ohm meter to check it out. Look on the CDI website and see if they list the specs for it.

No mater the color, the stator should not be leaking anything.

X2, if power pack does not fix problem probably bad stator. On a motor of that vintage a new power pack is a good investment.

i went out this morning and it fired right up.. lol im starting to think it is the stator this whole time but im going to replace the stator the power pack and the trigger this fall and have it all ready for next summer
