I have a question for you guys. I have a 1968 Soonercraft 15' boat. I have read here that these old boats need to have the transom and stringers redone. My question is if there is no soft spots on the deck or bottom of hull and the transom does not flex would i still need to tear this boat up.

Re: older fiberglass boat

hi....welcome to iboats !

no !

however.....if you wish to know for sure if the transom and deck are solid...take a drill bit.....and start drilling some holes from the inside..(place tape on the drill bit as a depth gauge)..on the transom around the outboard motor holes.

the wood shavings should be dry.....and wood colored....not dark or black. (rotten)

if all is well......fill the holes with 3m 5200 and go kill some fish !

Re: older fiberglass boat

not all old fiberglass boats are rotted, especially those used in salt water. If you can find out the history, if it was stored plug out and tilted, shouldn't be an issue automatically. If it ain't broke...

You already have the boat. The question about condition like that is only relevant before you buy!
