Just bought a awsome 84 ranger with a 150 Merk. but the rear live well has water in it and even if I put the switch in open the water does not drain. is this cable opperated??? and if I take the batt tray out will I be able to get to the gate valve

yes to both. I have the reverse problem on 1991 354v--It always fills with water( but it does drain) I just haven't spent the time to fix. I think you can unscrew the covers on the outside as well.
Congrats on the boat. I've had mine for a month now and it is awesome. Post some pic's if you can.

Going to pull the 3batts out and try to get to the valve. Not sure what I am looking for but I hope its under the batt tray

It is--should be on the centerline on the transum.
