i think its a 2003 pt 185 silver anniversary edition. loud beep when i lower motor

just bought from a guy and when i put her in the water she fired right up. but when i lower the motor i get a loud beep from under the dash, if i adjust the motor up some it goes away until i either lower it or give it some throttle. i unplugged the disconnect and ran the motor and it ran fine? help please?

If you let us know what engine you have (Year, Model, HP, and serial#) you would get a much better responce.

sorry. 2003 tracker 75 by mercury marine. 3 cyl 75 hp ser# 0t770127

Is is constant or intermittent and constant in nature. If the latter it is your low oil warning for your onboard tank. Either it is low on oil or your sense magnet may have fallen off. I have a '02 90 hp and I keep my tank between 1/3 full to 2/3 full. Below can activate the horn and above can leak out of the fill neck when tilted up if I don't get it closed nice and tight.

Good day, thanks to all. It was low on oil. Fixed a little leak now I need to know whatis the best oil to use in these? Any other additives to help anywhere, oil? Fuel? Only other boat I've ever owned was custom made with 454a and I know all about those engines. Thanks in advance. If I want to run it out of water is that safe?

WW has marine oil in their sporting goods dept; either Quicksilver or Pennzoil Marine TCW3 2 cycle oil. Pennzoil advertises syn blend, QK won't say. I have found that the syn/syn-blend burns the oil less (I guess) as there is less smoke. Other thing you might want to do is to run Sea Foam in the gas...directions on can, available at WW also or auto parts store. Keeps fuel fresh and engine clean. Picked up it's usage on here and have been happy ever since.
