I have a 1983 mercruiser 898 with 305cid that i just tried to take out for first time in two years, ended up with lots of water in oil, what are the odds of cracked block? should i have it rebuilt, or repower with a 350? will the existing outdrive handle more power? help please. also what do i have to do to remove motor do i seperate at bell housing or at the piece farther back?

thanks, how will the shaft seperate when i remove the two big bolts and lift engine up? looks like it has to come up 1 1/2" before it can go ahead, will it just slip apart like a drive line? also curious i had 30 psi oil pressure and water in the oil but no oil anywhere else including the lake????

You will have to pull the drive first... Then the shaft won't even be there :)
