Trying to revive an old 18 hp Evinrude 15032 model 1960 vintage. Question regarding starting. I need a battery and was wondering how big to get? Is a 12 volt 550 amps big enough? Also how do you Jump or bypass the key ignition? Trying to get it started. I have spark.

HI paper jam. That battery is plenty big. You could even use a small ATV/Lawnmower/Motorcycle battery. You should be able to wire the two leads of the igniton together if I'm not mistaken. If you're currently getting spark, you should be ok. You can get virtually any part you might need for it right here at iboats. Here are some great links that will help you bring her back to life. Holler if you get stuck. Keep us posted.

dont scrimp on your battery, especially if you're going to use a bilge pump, and other accessories, lawn mower /atv batteries will start a motor that works excellent, but if it gets cranky and you have to crank it a bit, you will wish for a real marine battery. (just added boating safety)

There are 6 wires/connecters on the ignition. So to bypass. Take jumer cables and hook NEG to Black Ground on block and POS to Red wire on starter?
