has anyone had a boat wrap as an alternative to paint? I plan on paint on an aluminum boat but wanted to know if wrapping is a worthy method. How long do they last and will it stand up to salt water and the elements? thanks - bill

Re: paint vs wrap

The main question would be .. how to you repair "wrap" compared to "paint".

Paints can withstand some abrasion . .. can wraps ?

Wraps work well and you can get just about any design or theme you can dream up.

It's a popular method around here.

Like anything else, it can be damaged though.

I have a painted Crestliner with huge decals on it,,, a wrap of sorts I guess. The paint is in great shape but there are areas where the decal (wrap?) is peeling at the edge or has a tear in it from an abrasion....

Re: paint vs wrap

There are many different grades of vinyl wrap, good types are much better than a typical stock boat sticker.

The advantage is you can create a custom design from pictures or most any type of art work, the type that would be almost impossible to do in paint. It's the type used to do advertising wraps on vehicles.

If all you want is a blue boat, then a wrap may not be what you're looking for.
