I am attempting to remove the drive shaft from a 95 125 hp Merc OB lower unit. I removed the propshaft bearing carrier so that I have access to the bottom of the drive shaft. I have tried everything I know to remove the pinion nut off the bottom of the drive shaft including a pneumatic wrench and socket with cheater bar. I'm using a cresent wrench on the upper drive shaft (where it is flat for the impeller key) to prevent the shaft from rotating. However I can't seem to apply enough umph to turn the pinion nut. Will Mercury's special tools solve my problem? What am i doing wrong? Any advice? Thanks!

If original and never been removed it may be on with locktite.
I just put a wrench on the nut and turned the driveshaft counter clockwise to remove mine, it came right off.

How about a pipe wrench on the middle of the driveshaft? That should hold better than the cresent. Keep the pipe wrench away from the sealing area of the waterpump and the splines.
