electrical ?

just got my first boat 89 thundercraft 2.5 mercruiser and my question is should the trim and all pumps and nav lights come on without the key even being in the ignition? If not what could be the problem besides hot wire ran to battery cause i dont see one besides the radio

Mine do on a 98 Monterey 196. Nice if I have to trailer the lower unit when Im out of the boat.

Generally speaking the nav lights, the anchor lights, bilge pump, blower and trim should work without the key in the ignition. The radio and stuff might be on an accessory switch or the ignition. Look for the fuses, should be a couple there somewhere, if they are OK check all of the connections. Look for the red wire unswitched 12V. The purple wire is usually switched 12V.
