adjusting front motor mount

i've got an 82 merc 140 with the horseshoe type mount in the front and cant seem to figure out how to lower the mount a little so the drive can be properly aligned. any help is appreciated...

I think ive got the general idea... I've got to somehow loosen the two jamb nuts on the bottom of the mount, then loosen the one on top. Does that sound right? that's the only thing that makes sense to me. The only problem is getting to those jamb nuts.. Is there a special tool needed or something?

Yes, you can thank the boats design engineer for that.

There is, but they are always home made to fit the occasion and room available. Cutting, welding, heating, bending are necessary things needed to make all sorts of special tools for boats.
