Can throttle controls keep a 1999 Mercury 200 EFI from starting

I was loading my boat today and after I gunned the engine to get it on the trailor the motor stalled, I then could not restart the motor and the controls felt different, I checked the kill swicth and it was still contected, not sure what to try

The shifter has to be in N. Your control box may have failed you....Single lever 2000 or 3000 quicksilver...have Neutral Start switches within. It interrupts 12v to the starter solenoid in the engine via the Yellow/red wire.

Hey Thanks when I shift the contol forward or reverse the starter doesn't work, if I put it in neutral the starter turns over and the boat doesn't attempt to fire, when I arrived home an hour later and tried again only the starter turned, it seems weird that we enjoyed a day on the lake, the boat ran great all day, and thenjust that quick it doesn't attempt to fire, is there any other systems involed

If the charging system failed and you have been running the battery low you will have a problem. Actually, two problems.

One, the EFI requires a minimum voltage to function, a low battery will crank the motor but the fuel system will not function.

Two, a slow cranking speed will not generate enough voltage to fire the ignition system.

So the first thing to check on an EFI motor is battery voltage, key OFF, then again while cranking, as a marginal battery will drop voltage while under load.

You want to see 12.5 volts both at rest and no less than 11.5 while cranking, if voltage begins dropping under 11 you may begin to have problems with the EFI. Charge the battery fully and retest starting.

Once the motor is running, advance the throttle to 1800 to 2000 and recheck battery voltage to see if it has increased. If no increase begin testing the rectifier.
