3.7 mercruiser

I just got a 1990 21ft magna walkabout with 3.7 mercruiser.Untill today its been 10years since running.I drained gas tank put in new filter. Got her started but will run at less than 1200 rpm. Can anybody help?

First things first, do a compression check, and a cooling system pressure check (borrow the tools for both from Autozone). That will give you some info to start.
