I am currently running a stiletto advantage 13 1/4 x 15 pitch on a 1801 nautic bay with a four stroke 90 yamaha. Turning right at 5900 rpm at about 40 mph. My question is I am about to buy a spare and did not know if a four blade would help in any way I am happy with performance but do not have a lot to compare too. Is the four blade worth a try or get the same 3 blade since it works fine now.

Re: 18 foot bay boat 4 blade?

The ONLY advantage to adding blades is extreme handling(prop grabs water better in high speed(racing) turns with more blades) and if you operate in
big big waves(like 6 feet or more) again prop will grab better....it is not as efficient as a three blade(fuel consumption will go up most likely) so in your case with an average boat, 3 blade is best. But if you need a better hole shot without giving up much top end, then 4 blade is better if you don't mind buying more fuel....

Thanks, I might try it to see if it helps hole shot with 4 people. Current prop works good with two people but slow on plane with four. If I do try a four any suggestions in pitch or brand. Thinking stiletto again in Bay Pro 1. How much to go down in pitch? Any other brands good for this particular set up?
