I just bought a 1987 wellcraft with a 200 mercury on it, I was told it is either an 1989 or 1990 I am not positive of the year of the engive and the engine is completely blacked out. the engine runs perfect at idle and gets up on a plain with no problem. but after on a plain for a short time there is an alarm that sounds that I read is the engine over heating, the water pump is working just fine so I am not sure of the problem and after the alarm sounds the engine will only start when I give it full throttle. I am not much of a mechanic and was just wondering if there could be an easy way to dignose the problem without sending it to a professional.
