no alarm buzzer beep on 1990 200 hp outboard

My engine model is E200TXESM, when I move the key to on, I don't get a self-test warning beep out of the motor. I have researched quite a bit and several posts indicate that the warning horn may be bad and others indicate that this vintage doesn't do a startup self test.

I put a volt meter across the wires connected to the buzzer horn and there is a constant 12v to it when the key is on. It seems to me that there would only be voltage when the horn would be blowing, but maybe the horn has electronics in it over and above on or off to sound the horn.

So, a 1990, warning beep at startup or not? And if there should be a startup horn beep do I need to replace the horn or look at other sensors?

Go back to the p/h, find a tan wire on one of the temp senders, disconnect it, turn the key on and ground out the mtr wiring side of the switch. If the horn sounds it's okay. Some of the older ones didn't have the self test feature.

1990 should self test. Purple wire to horn always hot with key on.

NO, you don't get a 'test' beep when you turn on the key.

If you want to test the horn pull one of the tan wires from the temp. switch on the head and ground it (the end going into the powerpack), the horn should sound.

I still say that if that 1990, 200, looper if rig correctly,it will have the self test alarm system.
Also 3 wire VRO2 and the alarm for overheat, low oil, no oil, and fuel restriction. Warning horn information sheet and decal that explains the different tones for each sensor in OMC training handout at OB@ class in Sunrise FL dated sept 1989.

Thanks for the input, seems split opinions. I'm going to try to go out to where I store her tomorrow and see if I can get the horn to blow by grounding a temp sensor.

Verdict is in. The motor does not have a startup self test beep. I disconnected and grounded out lead for the high temp sensor and got the squeal.
