8 hp Yamaha outboard ( 8MLHY) shift rod disconnect

How do I disconnect the shift rod on my 8 hp 2 stroke Yamaha so I can remove the lower unit to install a new impeller? Any suggestions?

just look at the rod where it comes up out of the lower - you'll see the screw and anchor clamp joining the 2 rod ends right there exposed

Thank you-- yes I found it and it was a piece of cake from there.

I'm having the same problem but don't see the screw you're talking about. Is it under the rubber bellow thing? My rubber is cracked, looks like I'll need to change it but I don't see the screw.
