2004 60hp Merc 4 Stroke Big Foot.

The motor is not recharging the battery or supplying voltage to run the ignition system.

Charge the battery and the motor runs great. Cruise around for a while, especially at night with the lights on, and the motor will eventually die. Battery is also dead at this point. No start. Tow home.

I have this sinking feeling that the stator is dead. Thoughts?

Stator or rectifier/regulator.

Make no assumptions as they are usually wrong.

Test and PROVE the fault as there is NO RETURN on electrical problems.

Check this thread to see if your service manual is available

Study the electrical section and follow the tests for the rectifier/regulator, if it passes those tests then move on to testing the stator.

Test twice, order only the correct part once.

Nice manuals. Takes a bit of hunting & pecking though. Would have been nice if they were labeled a little better. But the price is right! Thanks.
