I have an '85 Celebrity with a Mercruiser 230/ Alpha one out drive. Had the water pump impeller reloaced in June by marina. Has ran gret up till last 3 weeks. Gets hot wile cruising above 3K RPM. Will cool down at idle, or low speeds. Even towing a wakeboarder. Engine did not have a thermostat, so I put one in and it made things worse. I pulled the hose from the lower unit and cranked it up... I am geting a steady strong stream of water. I pulled all the drain plugs from manifolds and flushed them out. Got a little sand, but not enough to really cause a concern. When I had the thermostat housing off, I noticed a small piece of rubber gasket materil, possibly left over from the w/p rebuild in the housing. While I had the plugs out of the manifiolds, there was never a steady stream of water coming from them. Water would drain out, then stop, then drain for a little longer, then stop and so on.. Is this normal? Any suggestions? Thanks
