Hey guys, I just got a DT40 Jet, and it runs good. Idle's a little rough. Here are the plugs

I was going to replace them, but do you think there is something else I need to adjust? Seems like it's running cold maybe? (or rich). how would I adjust it

Also, someone else reocmmended I change the impeller (in the motor not the jet). I'm new to working on outboards, so I'm not sure where that is or how to replace it
Thanks!
Tim

The impellar is part of the water pump that spins to throw water up to cool the engine. It is a good idea to change these every year to avoid any problems. Could we get some more information from the engine to help you more.

That tan color looks fine to me, but maybe clean plugs with carb cleaner and old toothbrush, just to keep them fresh...

Plugs look OK, clean or replace if you want.
The jet furnishes the cooling water to the motor from what I understand the one they were talking about is in a normal lower unit, but you can pull and test the thermostat to see if it is working properly or replace with new just to be sure it is not sticking open or full of trash

Your plugs look great. If you are getting a strong telltale stream from the bottom of your cowling, I would spend the rest of the season enjoying your purchase. All outboard jets use the same water pump as the prop, rather than taking a chance of snapping off bolts now, use the off season to install a water pump kit and clean your carb.

Outboard jet's use a seperate impeller, just like a propped lower unit.

Here is a top image of a outboard jet foot, note the water pump (white plastic housing).

Re: Spark Plugs a little dirty??

Cool! Thank you guys for all your help. I'll use some of the off season to do a lot of stuff to it, but will continue with the standard maintenence. I'm getting a steady stream (pee) from the engine, so I'm assuming it's working ok. But I'll be sure to replace it soon.

Thanks again!
