2 or 3 years ago I bought a 1970, 50 hp, model 500 Merc outboard, manual start. At that time the kill/shut off switch worked. The last year or so I have had to take off the cable from the mercruser control and use a screwdriver to short the motor out. Also, the tac use to work but also quit working (if I have it connected incorrectly could this be causing the problem with the kill/shut off switch(?) as it is on the same cable/connection). Anyway, I have tried different switches without success. I am thinking that an ordinary switch would simply "open" the circuit and not "short" the circuit which appears to be what should actually be done. Any suggestions/comments (please)......
