No water getting to theromostat. impeller good. i believe stern drive pump is working correctly. There is alot of water coming out of transome area where outdrive attaches when engine running, Which I dont think is normal, so thinking the hose is broken in that area. wondering how to get to that area, I suppose the lower unit must come off. Is that hose a rubber hose or copper? Am i on the right track? Thanks for any help.

well replying to my own thread. i just saw a diagram of transome area, it looks like exhaust there, so that could make it look like water coming out in that area. i guess now not sure of my question!

I think the 4.3 and 3.0 had the cobra so I'll comment on that.
The exhaust belows has the bottom part of it cut off and water and exahust come out when on the muffs. Thats normal.
I'm trying to figure out the smae problem with mine. I'm focusing on the impeller, impeller housing, gaskets, etc.
I also have no water to the thermostat unless I pull the hose off the thermostat. Seems like a lake of force from the impeller.
Good luck with yours and if I learn anything on mine, I'll share it..
Look at the thread "My gremlin moved on 1989 OMC 3.0"

Howdy,

and Welcome aboard!

It will help a lot if you tell what you have. Make, Model (number) and year model etc....

King Cobra doesn't give much to go on.

Rick

Re: Overheat 4.3 with omc king cobra outdrive

Its a 1989 4.3L V6 model(well doesnt seem like a model number) 262aprmed. King Cobra outdrive. And actually getting some water at idle to thermostat with more at a little higher rpm. So maybe a week pump/impeller?? But heres the kicker, was going to take the boat out, only had to idle it over a short distance and noticed some water coming out of hose to thermostat, so I put hose back on, increased power, and temp came right down to 130, runs cooler at high speed, at idle temp increases maybe 10 degrees. So: now maybe thinking I had a stuck thermostat or a clogged intake(although i checked that didnt seem clogged) and maybe a week stern pump also. although I usually dont think of having 2 problems at the same time. But bottom line is right now all is good. But going to order a new thermostat and maybe a pump kit. Any other thoughts I would appreciate. Also I didnt say in orig that It 1st overheated just idling across lake was 225 degrees when i first noticed it.

Re: Overheat 4.3 with omc king cobra outdrive

Well today it overheated again. But of course its sunday and had to leave gods country so no time to troubleshoot. but now thinking more like a stuck thermostat being it now is an intermittent problem. Can I run without a thermostat for test purposes? Also One other thing would it be true to say that if I have 160 degree stat, once warmed up thats where my temp should be. my guage ususlly reads 130 degrees, guage error? Thanks to anyone who might have any input.
