Ok recently got a boat to waste my money on and going through a few things. Changed water pump in stern drive as other one was not pumping water. New one is not pumping either. I took hose off at inside of hull going to power steering cooler and other end off at thermostat housing assembly. I can run a house through that hose with no blockage. My problem lies in the sterndrive. It is not pumping out water at more then a trickle. This is hose tested and water tested. Hose testing I get a little pressure coming out but that is mostly due to hose pressure itself. Could there be a blockage in a hose in the sterndrive? I am assuming there is cause with a new pump I can't see why lots of water is not flowing. Has anyone had blockage problems in the sterndrive water tubes?

I will be diving into this issue tomorrow afternoon to see if I can figure it out.

Also anyone do freeze plugs on a 5.7 Mercruiser while still in the boat. I do not know it its a back plug or rear side plug, I just know I have alot of water coming out right where my starter is and I found online that there is a freeze plug directly behind the starter so I am assuming that is what is leaking and I really don't want to pull the motor.

Thanks in advance, spent last 2 hours doing online research to help me with there issues.

Did you remember to put the key between the impeller and the drive shaft? If that key isn't there the shaft can spin all it wants but the impeller will not. It's easy to miss - I did it once.

Core plugs( freeze out plug) normally just dont fall out .Steel ones rot out, but marine motors dont have them.water in the block combined with freezing temps push them out.
As long as the motors turning ,the inpeller shaft turns, unless the drive was run with no oil and destroyed the upper gears or the engine coupler is bad.
Go to the Adults Only section to get the manuals you need.

The key is in and I know the drive is spining as the boat moves in the water still. I think previous owner did not drain block for winter so I think freeze plug got pushed out. Way to much water coming out to be a crack. But still got no water coming into block. Hopefully I can diagnose this stuff tomorrow.
