Rebuilding my '91 9.9 lower unit.

When pulling apart there were were shims that came off before I could see where they went. I have read something on this from Yamaha and it seems very technical.!

Basically, I have two very thin shims the same size that I don't know where they go.

Their outside and inside diameters do not look like they belong anywhere - although I know they do.

Also, my prop shaft is slightly worn where the oil seals ride - what is too much wear ?

Any help ?

Re: yamaha - 9.9 Lower unit shim and prop shaft wear ?

those shims most likely go behind your bearing carrier. (the big piece that the prop shaft goes through.) if you go to a yamaha part diagram and put in the exact model number that you have and then look up the lower unit section. you can see a exploded diagram of where those will go. As for your prop shaft. if it is worn you will have to do a runout test and see how much it is actually worn and see if it is within the correct specifications. I dont have them on hand without the correct model number.
