88 Johnson SPL grease fitting??

Newbie here.....I have a 88 Johnson SPL. On the back of the mid section of the engine there is a hole where it looks like a grease fitting should be. I pushed a piece of wire in and there is grease. I looked online and the parts schematic but it doesnt show anything here. Should there be a fitting here or is just having an open hole ok? I attached a pic...the hole is right below the greasy spot between the top two bolts.
