Running an engine with a float charger attached?

This is for a late '80's Ford with EFI and all the associated electronics. It is my son's car and he is on the east coast so I keep the float charger on the batt. Does it hurt, either the car or the charger to periodically start the engine.

It would be a pain to open the hood every time and disconnect the float charger.

Nope it will not hurt it. The float will sense full charge and shut down and will only re-charge when needed

Thanx Bob. I has heard that chargers have a different 'line cycle' that might not be compatable with auto electronics

I've got 4 of them from Harbor Freight. I wait till they go on sale for $3.99. Two of them have run fairly constantly, one of them runs all winter on my lawn rider battery the 4th one gets used intermittantly on my Mustang.

So far they are all still working. I have just hesitated starting the motors with them hooked up.
