Bought a "87" SportsCraft 222 with a 1996 Johnson Ocean Runner 225 about 2 weeks ago. Im new to power trim/ tilt and have a major problem. Lowered the motor and the trim/ tilt became inoperable. Motor won't go up or down. No noise heard when pressing tilt buttons on throttle or motor. Engine starts up and all electronics powered up.
Not sure if this related, Previously when trying to lower the engine there was 15-20 sec delay before the engine would start moving, however I could hear the electric motor running/ hydraulic pump. I should also point out that it didn't drop down smoothly. It would lower in a bucking manor. Like a hydraulic hammering.
The boat is in saltwater on a mooring with the motor down and a I'm concerned if I try to pull it out I'll bottom out on the ramp and trash the lower unit. Looking for hints/direction on how to trouble shoot nonfunctioning tilt (while in water if possible).
