1999 115hp FICHT motor. When I bought the motor I was told to use Evinrude systhentic oil only. Something do with the computer set up I think. Well the price of this oil is getting high around $40.00 per gal so with putting a lot of hours it starts getting expensive and hard to find. I am thinking of switching over to Amsoil which is alot cheaper. Will this hurt the engine and does anybody know what Amsoil product is comparable Thanks

If it is rated TCW-3 then you are good to go! Myself personally, Run quicksilver brand. I like it cause it's ash free! Good luck! and welcome to iboats!

Thanks for the reply, How do I find out if it is rated TCW-3??? What does that stand for? I bought the motor used about 3 years ago and have run nothing but the sythentic. How is the price compared to Amsoil. Thanks

Re: Correct Oil 1999 FICHT

A FICHT is a fuel injected motor and uses 2 stroke oil designed for injection systems. In this case it is FICHT RAM oil, now called XD-50. It is a synthetic blend meant for DFI 2-stroke engines. Regular TC-W3 oil is the BRP XD-30 oil.

Do not run regular TC-W3 in Ficht it will not like it. Unfortunately you are stuck with running either the XD-50 or you could run the Mercury synthetic blend for the Optimax DI engine. That is the down side of running a Direct Injected engine the oil is expensive.

I am running the XD-100. Maybe should have stated this earlier . Sorry about that. Have you heard anything about Amsoil outboard motor oil?

Re: Correct Oil 1999 FICHT

XD-100 is mainly for the E-tech if you set it to run '1%'. XD-50 is the original 'demand' for the fichts. As for Amsoil, I have heard both yes and no, mainly yes, but that on conventional 2-strokes. I would not mess to much with the Ficht and E-tech oil specs and demands.

Use the XD-50 on a Ficht. Oil is cheap compared to power heads.

What boobie said. DI engines have different needs than carbed engines. XD-50 is the only correct oil for FICHT outboards.
