1995 merc 3.0 lx engine

iI have a 1995 merc 3.0 lx motor runs terrific when she starts smooth and fast but trying to start her ,engine keeps cranking , u could smell fuel so it is getting it changed all filters and plugs need help also looking to solve starter problem bolts sheared off twice already looking for bracket for starter or do i have to buy starter and bracket together????? thankx sf43

Check your choke setting.

Proper procedure to start these engines is to pump the throttle 2-3x, then set it 1/4 to 1/2 throttle and then back it down to idle after it starts....

you say you smell gas -- find out why before you try to start the boat again -- all it takes is two drops to completely destroy your boat....

Look at the yellowish (or clear) line between the fuel pump and carburetor -- there should NOT be gas in there -- if there is, you need a new fuel pump -- and it could be flooding your engine as you try to start it.
3.0's do not like to be flooded.....

thanks for replies turns out it was electric choke stuck wide open took apart cleaned works perfect thankx mike
