Hey, just tried to start this motor I bought and the rope came off the rewind starter. Is there a thread to look at to show the proper way to replace the rope? Thanks
use the search feature..upper right hand corner with magnifying glass icon next to it...type in... vertical rewind starter...this is one procedure what a video would certainly help on
LOGIN as directed then drill down to: Small Engines, Marine/Boat Motors, Evinrude/Johnson, Outboard 2-40HP 1973-1990, Automatic Rewind Starters and, finally, Side-Mounted Pinion Gear Starters. If this does not help you, send me a PM with your email address and I will reply with a scanned copy of the procedure attached. Good luck with that great old motor!
hey guys thanks for the info. Went by the info Joe Reeves had posted and after a few tries I got the starter rope fixed. Put it back in the barrell and it fired right up,pumping water and everything. Great buy for 75.00. Do have one other ? Is there a way to tighten up the steering? not the tiller arm,but the left to right action? mine is too loose. thanks
Yes, there is a flat head screw with a spring under it below and behind the carry handle. It adjusts the tension on the vertical pivot. View attachment 107966
