My elderly neighbor asked me to get his boat running it has a 1968 Evinrude 55 with electric (punch button) shift. The cable harness on the motor is beyond repair, where can I find one? When I find one I will order a repair manual at the same time.

Second how do you get the lower unit off? I found all 6 bolts holding it on and it is loose but will not drop. There is no shift linkage at the motor head because it is electric shift. What am I missing?

I have worked on other motors but always Mercs and much bigger.

Thanks

Could be the drive shaft is stuck in the crankshaft. I doubt you are going to find a shift harness unless you start checking out salvage yards. You can make one as long as the end that hooks up to the shift solenoids is in tact.

YOu can search ebay for a harness or do as I did and remove the old one..use it as a template to make a new one. Cost me about $30 to make

Thank you all. I got the lower unit off. I just took some leverage. The water pipes and the drive shaft a little sticky. Wire harness is now on work bench and being repaired one wire at a time.
