i'm thinking getting one of these motors to replace my tired mercury.

they just seem like a jiggle motor to me?

would a 4 cylinder mercury be better or is 60hp, 60hp.

i know the later 3 cylinder 60hp are about 50 pounds more that's why i'm looking at the 2 cylinder model.

do these motors have good torque for skiing on a lightweight boat?

my mercury 50hp(1961) that's tired will pull a 150 pound guy with just me in the boat on a slalom ski. it works
really hard and i have to kinda slingshot the boat a little to get on plane.

i had to run full throttle the whole time lol.

Those motors are all torque monsters and do a good job for what you want. The three cylinder engines have a larger lower unit and therefore the weight difference. I used to ski behind a 35 HP Johnson on a very heavy but very standard Richline 15 ft aluminum fishing boat and I was well over 150# at the time. It all depends on what boat you put the motor on. And yes -- 60 HP is 60 HP so long as you measure HP at the same place (flywheel or prop) when making those comparisons.

The twin JohnnyRude 60s were all crank rated. When rating was switched to the prop (1985?) the 60 was dropped.

I have used both 48 and 50 twins and they are great motors. The 48 is the same as a 50 except things like PT&T were extra. I think I woiuld prefer one of them to a triple 60.

lol sounds good then.

ill stick to the 2 cylinder models.

if the 60hp was prop rated, how much HP you think it really was?

......shouldnt prop hp be lower than crank hp? ie.....60 at the prop would probably be 65 at the crank, allowing for parasitic drag? (just a thought)

Guestion was confusing , 60 hp was crank rated
therefore if prop rated would be about 55hp.
