So for those that were following me before on my last thread called Automotive paint here is my official restoration.

and this boat is a 1961 feathercraft cisco ll with a 1960 johnson seahorse 18hp on it, it also had a dealer installed full steering and dash with windsheild back in the day.

Yesterday evening me and my dad slid the boat off of the trailer and onto the grass then we drug it over to the saw horse rolled it onto its side then lifted it up(upside down) onto the saw horsed be then it was at least 5:30pm then i stayed out and sanded the entire hull most by hand and the good hand held disc sander then i finished masking off a few things then keps on sanding away taking away any loose paint that was chipped or cracked until 9:30pm so for a good 4 hours. Then this morning i sanded for another couple hours then got out the air hose and blew away all of the dust and anymore paint that wanted to come off. then i gave it a 50/50 vinegar and water bath then i realized i forgot to sand the stern and railing so i then got them done and gave it all another bath. then i waited for it to dry and i then got out the etching primer i only bought two cans for now and i got all fo the bare aluminum and then some covered with a good light dust. and i got this much done with just one can so i think i will break out othher can and just do some touch ups with it.

so heres what i got so far

Re: 1961 Feathercraft Restoration w/pics.

well sorry for the long wait i went out of town for the weekend. but on friday evening i got the left side of the hull painted with a rustoleum gloss white. i ended up buying a gallon of the stuff because i will be doing the trailer in the same white so a gallon will be plenty to do both the boat and trailer. so anyway on saturday morning i got up early and painted the right side of hte hull done with one thin coat, but the paint was mixed so thin that i had it running all down the boat so i had to dab the entire side of hte hull. but the night before it had been thin to but the gun just couldnt spray it on very good so i spent along time the night before getting it done. so i got the gun adjusted good for the thin paint and sprayed a second coat the the left side. i do wish though that i had used a filler primer on the hull it had some pretty deep scratches in the old paint and it would of made it looked alittle better. but sorry for those who were looking for a full restoration this is kind of a quickie and the designe of the boat it has no floor decking or foam filled seats so sorry for the lack of a full resto. but it did need a full paint job though. and if you want to read about bringing the engine back to life for it click herehttp://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=487488

no i didnt use a hardner i had a hard time finding one so i decided to just go ahead and paint. but thanks for the heads up on the two weeks i was hoping to get it done and take it out this weekend. but why do you have to wait so long? on the can it says that 24 hours is a full cure so wouldnt i be good to go then.

Re: 1961 Feathercraft Restoration w/pics.

well last night i got the boat flipped right side up then i backed the trailer right up to it then tipped it back and pushed it under then i pushed thes boat as far up until the winch would reach the i just winched it right on. now i just need to paint the inside walls and benches. would do you guys think about the bow do you think i should put plywood in it like it was then carpet it and make a hatch or put in a pedistal seat or even just leave it empty? and still wonder about the cure time woodonglass mentioned and if the can says full cure in 24hrs wouldnt i be good to go then.

I am speaking from experience, and from other iBoaters experiences. If you don't want it to peel off I would wait. It's up to you.

k thanks for the advice i dont think it wil be anytime to soon anyway cause i still need to paint the inside and get it prepped and ready. but do you have any ideas about the bow. like i said before it had a peice of plywood in there before covering the bottom of the deck. do you think i should just replace it like it was or make a hatch for it or even put in a pedestal seat.

well sorry been some stormy wheather so not much time to work on thee boat in the evening and school started so cant in the morning anymore but i still did get some of the inside prepped. i got all of the floor covered with newspaper and the holes in the bow filled and sanded useing quicksteel i got it at checker for only like $3 and it fully cured in 24 hours. so then i got the bow and front bench primed with 50/50 vinegar and water then used and etching primer then the side rims and stern primed so now all thats left is the inside walls then to paint. sorry for lack of pics will try to get some soon.

Re: 1961 Feathercraft Restoration w/pics.

well i finally got the bow and interior painted along with the rim. and it turned out absolutly awsome and i will try to get some pics tommorrow and i have just been doing some touch up work on the paint lines. and does anybody know a good way to clean the windsheild it is made of pexiglass and tonight i tried a small about of a car rubbing compound in the corner so if it cleans it up good and stays i will go ahead and use it but if anyone has a better solution let me know.

Re: 1961 Feathercraft Restoration w/pics.

thanks for the input but it dont fly like you think it would i dont know if the boat is just heavy or if the engine still needs a little more work but i dont think i am getting above 10 miles per' hour. but i do know the boat weighs around 169-180 pounds not to mention all of the added gear and two people.

Re: 1961 Feathercraft Restoration w/pics.

looks great hondarider !!!!! I think you should probably get more than 10 mph out of her, assuming everything is running properly :/ I have a 20 hp on a similar sized (14') aluminum boat, and I found that I had to to trim the motor up to the 2nd notch from the bottom position to get optimal performance. I think it is/was because the cavitation plate on the motor was too deep into the water. Try doing the same to yours and see if it helps. I'm even debating getting a jack plate of some type to raise the motor even higher so that the cav plate is even or slightly above the keel. Congrats again on the new toy.
