I have a 1985 120hp vro v4 johnson. The tach cuts out above 4200 rpms. I switched the tachs with no luck. Ran 3 new wires to it, power, ground, and signal with no luck. Regulator has been replaced. I moved the gray from the wiring harness to the yellow/gray from the stator. The tach works intermitenly now. I ran the test in the book and the stator passed all of them. The engine voltage is 12.3 not running and 13.5-13.8 running. I never see the volt go up and down while running the engine. Could this still mean the stator is shot? They are very pricey and I don't want to just throw money at it. Thanks!
