Have been a member here for a little while and have always found the users helpful...sooooo...I'm looking for some info.
I recently purchased a Minn Kota 50# power drive bow mount trolling motor. The factory installed battery leads are 10 awg marine grade cable, approximately 4 foot long, I am looking to run this off of my secondary battery in the stern of my boat, roughly 17 feet away. I contacted Minn Kota to determine the correct size cable that I should use for this length of a run, and was told to use 6 awg....no problem there, now here are my questions.
I pull 6 awg from my battery forward. Do I splice to the factory installed 10awg? or do I remove the existing 10 awg from the motor and run the 6 awg all the way? if I retain the 10 awg, will there be significant voltage drop at the splice, or heat build up? and where do I put my circuit breaker? does it go at the splice? or closer to the battery?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.....and thanks in advance for your help.
