Bass. We all love to catch them, its one of the greatest fighting fish out there. It can be cough on live or artificial bait, from the boat or from the shore.

Since this is a nation-wide forum, I am interested and quite honestly a little curious what everyone is using out there on the water.

My favorite lure is a Pumpkin Swimsenko from Gary Yamamoto. Its what I use most of the time, however, I have never cough anything bigger than 6lb on it.

My fave baits to throw for bass are an 8" tassle lizard and a buzzbait, the bait they like to bite the best is a 2" hot grub on a 1/16 jig head when I'm crappie fishin'.

I use a 4 1/2 inch oxblood finess worm on a drop shot most of the time. Otherwise 6 inch watermelon w/ the little black specks texas rigged.

Plastic worms are my favorite, they are extremely popular and are one of the most versatile lures out there. Plastic worms produce bass day in and day out, all year long, in every region of the world.

I'm in Pennsylvania, but I grew up in Texas, so I've always used dark colored plastic worms. I also love to throw spinnerbaits at submerged timber. Unfortunately, that doesn't seem to work on yankee bass! I'm still learning my way around Pennsylvania fishing. They're more finicky (and smaller!) up here.

For open water diver, Bagley DDKB2 in fire tiger.

For surface, Original Rapala 18S or Hula Popper.

For weeds, Spinnerbait with white, black or firetiger skirt, 6" black worm Texas rigged.

Pumpkinseed grub on a spinnerbait rig (beetle spin arm) works deep, shallow, fast or slow.

Topwater I throw a jointed jitterbug in frog pattern with white belly, or a Storm sub wart in baby bass pattern.

Deeper cranking I use a Cotton Cordell Wiggle O, or a Storm mid wart.

Everything in between I slow crank a Bandit 100 or Bomber square A, or a Diawa peanut.

Any Strike King lure with Kevin Van Dam's name on it. He's the King of bass fishermen--ever.

A neighbor is a tournament bass fisherman, and he couldn't find any of these lures locally. In April, he called Bass Pro Shops, and they said they'd put him on "the waiting list." Expected delivery date was October. Now, that's popular.

I love the buzz bait way beyond all else. It's my startup bait every time I fish. I use it at all times of day and in any conditions. I use it when it makes no sense to use it. The bass must absolutely convince me that they absolutely, no way are taking the buzz today. Then I usually go to the opposite extreme - Senko or knockoff thereof. Deadly boring but usually pretty effective.

I catch most of my bass in fake worms. My favorite colors are the berkley power worm in electric grape 7 inch. I caught my biggest bass on one of these 5 lbs. The other colors I throw are culprit in a 7.5 inch the tomato color and in the 10 inch tequila shad. I always keep a crankbait on my other pole. Hard to say what color because I don't consistently catch fish on them.

Do you use the small buzz baits or the bigger ones with a clacker?

Rapala early in the am when the lake is like glass. I also have good luck with Mepps Aglia
# 5. Sometimes just a nice big fat night crawler works on our lake. We catch nice bass right off of our pier at night.

I use mostly 1/4 oz buzz baits, some with clacker, some without. Also use 3/8 oz occasionally. After over 20 years, it's still not clear whether the clacker makes a difference or not.

Re: What is YOUR favorite bass bait!?

Whether casting or trolling I've had the best luck with plugs such as the Model A Bomber. Usually the 700 size. Sometimes I use crankbaits of similar design from other manufacturers. I've even had good luck with some of the knock off, no-name cheapies that I've picked up from various bargain bins at places like Wally World and Academy.

I suspect that I do best with these plugs because I started out with Bomber plugs when they were still made out of wood with metal bills many years ago and have continued to use them over the decades.

Had I started out with plastic worms or top waters or buzz baits (all of which I occasionally use) I imagine my answer would have been quite different.

Second choice would be Storm Hot N Tots.
