We just got a new boat and the outboard motot has a small crack on bottom portion of motor by propeller. Can this welded or what can be done to stop the crack from getting larger?

This is definitely a case where pics would get you the fastest answer.

Is it in the skeg? Can you send us some pics? Also, this is not where to post for OB motors. Anyways, the skeg is probably aluminum and you need to take it to someone who welds aluminum. The scary part is with something like this is that the lower unit oil will leak out. Whos to say that the last owner didnt run the motor hard with no lower unit oil??

So you see, there are a lot or aspects to this question.

James Propeller in Carrollton, Tx. (at used to be) does all sorts of prop repairs. Years ago he expanded his business to include just what your requested. Yes you can weld it (a little post op required....possible gasket/seal replacement, new lower unit fluid....no biggie).

Find a prop shop that does it and go for it.
