Re: bigger carb

You probably have a 9.9.
Most older carbs from 1974 to mid to late 80's should bolt up and work. As long as the carb looks like yours then it should work.
Put one on and if doesn't perform the way you want it to then sell it and the 9.9 and buy a bigger outboard.

Re: bigger carb

If you do indeed have a 9.5hp, The 15 carb won't work. And if you have a 9.9hp motor the 15 carb will not help. there's more to making extra hp on those motors then you think.

Re: bigger carb

i have a johnson 80's model and have a 15 carb and it helps some but its very small, i have a 13 whaler fiberglass and i couldnt plane with 9.9 with 2 people and with the 15carb i can just bearly plane, helps some not much. sry but if you have a 9.5 your screwed.

- run em' outta gas at the end of the season and replace the waterpump when needed and they run forever!

I mean this in the nicest way, But it's a bad idea to run a two stroke motor outta gas at the end of the season, You end up running the motor on gas that has no lubricant. Better to drain the bowl.

hey, most of the time, some of the oil is left it the cylinder.so it will stay lubricated. not to be mean but ive been doin this for as long as i can remember and it as worked for me (yes, even on 2 strokes). if your concerned about that then you should additionally fog the cylinders at the end of each season but i have about 14 outboards and it can be expensive to fog them all.

Not to steal the thread but . . .

Single carb it's ok to run it out of gas. Multiple carbs and one will go dry before the other.

Carry on.

Geotheoutboardkid, I have sox older then you. Check the manufacturer, I'm sure they wouldn't recommend it either.
