50hp shuts down

I just purchesed a 1995 50hp merc. i can run it for about 15-20 then the motor shuts down and wont start for a couple of hours. but it will start again does any one know what the prob could be

sounds to me its getting hot dude better check the thermostat make sure its working or just take it out try it that way or you may have a muddobber nest in it take out thermostat and run it on hose make sure water getting good and flushing in the heads

where would i find the thermostat. i have never owned an outboard this new
