i have a 1972 mirrocraft with mercruiser 140 181 cu in 4 cylinder

I just got the boat this yr and i have had to do numerous repairs on it. Now the motor runs great but i am having problems with the power trim system. When i am cruising in the water, the outdrive moves down by itself; i can watch it move down on the gauge, thats how noticeable it is. I am pretty sure it is being caused by one of the check valves in the pump, because i had it apart earlier this summer to replace the o-rings in the valve body. I cannot seem to find any info about the pump, and i need to figure out how all the balls/springs/etc. go together properly, and this is not in the service manual i have. I am fairly certain this is the problem, because it was not doing this before i disassembled the pump. All i know about the pump is that it is a high pressure pump with large reservoir. Any info/advice anyone have would be greatly appreciated, as i am trying to get on the water before the snow flies!
