Hi
I am new to boating. I just bought a Thompson 270 Daytona. The boat is listing to starboard in the water and I do not know why. There are 2 gas tanks on the boat , the fillers are one on either side. I do not know where the tanks are situated. The port one is full ans the starboard one not so full, but still the boat is down on starboard side. There is a 3 position swith on the helm for fuel. Does this siwtch the fuel drawn from one tank to the other or do the 2 engines draw from both?

I am not sure what else would cause the list. There is no evidence of water in the bilges.

Re: Cause of listing

Hard to say on the dash switch function as it may be installed wrong, I would run on the port tank in calm water and see if this starts to correct the list, or make it worse, In the long term find your tanks investigate there locations and placement. while your at it check for other sources that may be causing a list, the prudent mariner knows their vessel inside and out before putting to sea, Way better to find a problem on tera firma than out there on the big blue.
good luck kb

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

It don't sound like it's the fuel load doin' it...

Everything on board is Suspect, as the hull is obviously outa balance...

Yup, have to do some looking to find what is so heavy on the one side. Batteries, generator, fridge, aunt bertha, etc. There should be some kind of access to look around the undersides for the tanks to confirm. Also just to rule out the tanks, either fill the empty one to the same level, or siphon from the full to the empty one.

The 270 Daytona is a 10' beam correct? Some of the taller and narrower boats suffer from listing, but I think Thompsons were usually reletively wide. With that, how is the boat layed out? Whats on the starboard side down below, in the bilges etc... Where are the batteries, HW heater, water tank, holding tank, head, galley?
