1981 evinrude 35 starter not engaging fly wheel

Every time I try to start the motor the starter just spins and will not engage the fly wheel. Has never done this before, but has been sitting for a while. I am using a 10amp battery charger/engine starter to start the motor. Any advice or help very much appreciated.

Probable that 10amp is not enough to start the engine. Don't have the spec on your engine but may be that 10 amp is not much. I sugggest you borrow a battery . Don't start it without water running though it.

Make sure all your wires and contacts (on battery/starter/solenoid etc) are in good shape and free of corrosion etc.
