Greetings all. 1983 Johnson 60 HP. The first time I took the boat out it seized up after 20 minutes. Moving ahead 2 weeks I pulled the motor apart and found the lower rod bearing destroyed and a chunk of piston ring missing from the top cylinder. Both cylinders scored up. Lower rod journal blackened. It all looks like old damage and it just happened to let go on me. The guy I bought it from swears he never had a problem with it.
Now for the swap question. I found a power head from a 93 Evinrude 50 HP and notice some obvious differences, the shift rod has a different bend, the right side electric box is different, the throttle and timing controls are slightly different. The Lower units are totally different. Also the wiring harness connector off the good 50 HP has been cutoff so I am not sure if that would have matched up. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Be careful ,, you may find that the exhaust ports and exhaust box will not match up either ,,good luck
