Louisiana says under the boating rules and regulations, part OVERPOWERING, that "No watercraft shall be equipped with any motor or other propulsion machinery beyond its safe power capacity taking into consideration the type and construction of such watercraft and other existing operation conditions".
Taking in the fact that I am ignorant, what Sam Hill does that mean? I have my opinion but mine has got me trouble before.

"Don't put a bigger motor on your boat than it was designed to handle."
This number should be found on a placard near the console or can be obtained from the manufacturer if they are still in business.

"other existing operation conditions" means don't operate a properly powered pontoon at maximum load and maximum speed in four-foot seas.
