Power Steering doesnt work

I recently bought a 95 bayliner capri 2050 and the power steering does not work. Its my first boat and the only thing i know to change would be the power steering pump. Before i spend 300 dollars on a pump is there something else i should try first? Thanks.

Ayuh,... Welcome Aboard,...

Pull the cable from the aluminum tube at the transom, 'n clean the corrosion outa it...
Then grease, 'n reassemble...

And if you do end up needing a power steering pump, don't spend $300 on it! They are the exact same pumps as on GM trucks. Just switch the reservoir.
