alittle history,
1990 Doral Monticello. 4.3l with OMC cobra i believe about 800 hours on both

2 weeks ago hit a rock folded prop over not too bad but came home on one engine.
Got prop fixed reinstalled and back on the water, after about 2 hours of cruising at 1400RPM we were picking up to come home, brought engines up to around 3300RPM and it sounded like the Prop shot of the end.
Wife yelled hey idiot you didn't install the prop right as it just shot off, lol well its still there but forward or reverse just whines but does not transfer power to the prop.
So cpl thoughts if the drive is gone, should I:

1. Buy a used/rebuilt drive
2. Buy SEI new drive
3. convince wife to let me buy a cheap used boat with 4.3OMC and keep it as spare then rebuild the broken unit and have 2 boats

Or maybe its not totally destroyed and an easy fix (highly doubt it but)

thanks and sorry for the long winded story

Re: 4.3 omc lower drive destroyed ???

check to see if the new prop hub has spun.
check the drive coupler on the engine
see if the prop shaft was bent and caused a lower unit failure
if those aren't the problem, then you'll have to haul the boat out to drain fluids to complete the diagnosis
but it does sound like the drive died

two SEI conversions might be the best long term solution
used drive might be best short term fix

Thanks Howard, I will check those items next time at the boat.
Does anyone know what effect changing only one drive to SEI will have on the boat is that a possibility, I intend to do both but finacially not feasible at this time

is there a forum for SEI
